Guwahati, 2nd Jan. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off 200 air-conditioned electric buses on Monday. These buses will operate in Guwahati and its surrounding areas.
The state government had previously introduced 100 CNG buses, and the addition of electric buses demonstrates their commitment to eco-friendly public transportation.
Sarma emphasized the importance of addressing climate change and stated that launching 200 electric buses on the first day of the year reflects their dedication to a greener environment, specifically in Guwahati.
The Chief Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to support private entities in establishing charging stations.
Furthermore, Sarma mentioned that his administration is implementing various measures to reduce environmental pollution, with visible results expected within four to five years.
Additionally, the installation of 2,000 CCTV cameras throughout the city is currently underway.
Also, the Chief Minister introduced the National Common Mobility Card, making Assam the third state in India to adopt RuPay-powered cards, providing customers with convenient access to different modes of transportation.
