Assam Invites Applications for Journalists’ Pension Scheme
Retired Journalists Over 60 with 20 Years Service Eligible for State Pension
- Assam’s DIPR has opened applications for the “Assam Pension Scheme for Journalists” for 2025-26.
- Retired journalists aged 60+ with at least 20 years of service in Assam are eligible.
- Applicants must be a domicile of Assam and meet the Working Journalist Act definition.

Guwahati, 19th July: The Government of Assam, through its Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), has invited applications from retired journalists for the “Assam Pension Scheme for Journalists” for the year 2025-26.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants:
- Age and Retirement: Applicants must have attained 60 (sixty) years of age and must have retired from the job of a Journalist, Photo Journalist, Correspondent, Proof Reader, or Camera Person.
- Domicile and Service: Applicants must be domiciled in Assam and have served as a journalist in the state for a minimum of 20 years immediately preceding their retirement date.
- Definition of Journalist: Candidates must meet the definition of a journalist as per the Working Journalist Act, 1955. Preference will be given to those who were issued a Recognition/Accreditation Card by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Assam. However, individuals with continuous service of 20 years or more will receive higher preference.
- Other Income/Pension: Applicants must not be on the payroll of any media house and must not be drawing pension from any source other than the Employees Provident Fund.
- Exclusions: Proprietors, Proprietor-cum-Editors, Manager-cum-Editors, and those whose job nature is not related to a working journalist are not eligible. Government servants are also not eligible for this pension.
- One Pension Rule: An individual can only receive one pension from schemes for Journalists, Literature, or Sportspersons.
Interested candidates are required to submit their duly filled application forms, along with all related papers and documents as per the prescribed proforma, in hard copy to the office of the undersigned.
