Guwahati, 7th July. Flood situation in Assam remains severe, affecting close to 24 lakh people across the state, official sources reported on Sunday. Several major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, have surged above the danger mark, exacerbating the crisis.
The toll from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms has reached 70, according to sources. Dhubri district is the worst-hit, with over 7.95 lakh people affected by floodwaters. Additionally, districts like Cachar and Darrang have each reported over 1.50 lakh affected individuals.
Currently, more than 53,000 people are seeking refuge in 577 relief camps established across Assam.
The Brahmaputra River, along with others such as Burhidehing, Dikhou, Disang, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Kopili, Barak, and Sankosh, have surpassed the red mark at multiple locations from Jorhat to Dhubri.
The deluge has also impacted wildlife and livestock, while extensive areas of agricultural land remain submerged. Significant damage to infrastructure, including roads and bridges, has been reported from various parts of the state.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are engaged in relief efforts to mitigate the impact on affected communities.
