New Delhi, 28th Oct: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness of Indian Railways in view of the impending Cyclone Montha, expected to impact the East Coast. The high-level review meeting, conducted via video conference, assessed the readiness of railway networks in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana.

The Minister emphasized the importance of uninterrupted communication, swift disaster response, and timely restoration of train services once the cyclone subsides. He directed all Railway Zones to remain on high alert, take precautionary measures, and ensure passenger safety and minimal disruption during the cyclone period.

Indian Railways has activated divisional war rooms for real-time coordination and response. Essential materials, machinery, and manpower have been pre-positioned in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Guntur divisions to ensure rapid emergency operations. Continuous monitoring of train operations is underway to avoid passenger inconvenience.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR), South Coast Railway (SCoR), and South Central Railway (SCR) zones have been instructed to mobilize resources and enhance safety protocols. Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, along with Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers, briefed the Minister on the precautionary steps taken, especially across the Waltair and Khurda Road divisions.

The Railways’ proactive measures underline the government’s commitment to disaster preparedness and safety of passengers in vulnerable regions.
