New Delhi, 11th Oct: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday inspected the newly constructed Holding Area and Permanent Passenger Facility Centre at New Delhi Railway Station, aimed at easing congestion and enhancing commuter convenience.
During his visit, the minister reviewed the arrangements and interacted with officials to assess the readiness of the new system. He said the facility would allow passengers to purchase tickets and access platforms without facing crowding issues.
“All ticket counters have now been relocated to this new centre. Passengers with reserved tickets can directly proceed to their platforms, while those without reservations can buy tickets comfortably here,” Vaishnaw said. The centre is equipped with ample seating, clean restrooms, and a comfortable environment for waiting passengers.
Vaishnaw noted that a temporary holding area had been introduced two years ago as a pilot project, which proved successful in managing crowds. “That experiment has now been made a permanent feature,” he added.
The Railways plans to replicate this model at 76 major stations across India. The system will face its first major test during the upcoming Chhath Puja and Diwali festivals, when passenger traffic peaks.
The minister further stated that the Railway Ministry is continuously working to enhance passenger amenities. “By February–March next year, IRCTC’s capacity will increase nearly tenfold, and more passengers are now using the Rail Yatri ‘Rail One’ app for bookings and travel updates,” he said.
