New Delhi, 21th Jan. Ashok Tanwar, a former Haryana MP, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on Saturday after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) two days prior due to the party’s “alignment” with the Congress.

In the presence of state BJP chairman Nayab Singh Saini and Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Tanwar joined the BJP at the party’s national headquarters in Delhi.

After joining the Congress, Tanwar gave a media interview in which he commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and acknowledged that he had an influence on him. “Under PM Narendra Modi’s direction, the nation has undergone significant change in the past ten years. The efforts being made by Prime Minister Modi to elevate India to the top have an impact on us. I’ll do all in my power to promote nation-building,” he declared.

“We will work as a team with CM Manohar Lal Khattar, (Haryana) state President Nayab Singh Saini to ensure in 2024 that we win 400 Lok Sabha seats,” he stated.

The statement “Big day of expansion of BJP Haryana as the former Congress state chief and a former leader of AAP– Ashok Tanwar has joined the BJP with his supporters” was used by Khattar to greet him upon his admission to the party.

“He is my nephew as his mother and I belong to the same village,” said Khattar.

Khattar went on to say that Tanwar’s targeting by Congressmen during his tenure in the historic party hurt him.

“He was tired of the Congress and wanted to join the BJP,” Khattar told the press.

After leaving the Congress, Tanwar eventually joined the AAP in April 2022 as opposed to the BJP. The error was ultimately made by him, according to Khattar. However, he noted, Tanwar has since learned from his error and joined the BJP. Notably, Tanwar left the AAP on Thursday, citing his dissatisfaction with the party’s connection with the Congress.
