ASEAN Secretary-General Pushes for Stronger India Ties

ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn on Monday emphasized the imperative for bolstering relations with India and amplifying its role in the Indo-Pacific region.

During the 48th Sapru House Lecture at the Indian Council of World Affairs, Kao underscored ASEAN’s contributions to maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond. He also proposed strategies for further elevating ASEAN-India partnership to address the escalating geo-strategic and geo-economic challenges faced by the world.

In a statement from ASEAN, Kao’s ideas on deepening cooperation between ASEAN and India to strengthen their role in the Indo-Pacific were highlighted. The statement emphasized the need for collaboration amidst the evolving global landscape.

Additionally, Kao held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and ASEAN.

Jaishankar remarked on their meeting, stating, “Discussed taking forward our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Our agenda focused on connectivity, food security, and trade.”
