Bhopal, 30th Sep: Former Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Arun Yadav’s remarks calling for unity and action beyond “mere speeches” have triggered fresh turbulence within the state Congress, while giving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a chance to lampoon its organisational efforts.
Yadav, in a social media post, said: “It is impossible to fight toxic ideologies with speeches and statements alone. We will fight with coordination and unity for our ideology, keeping everyone together. If we adopt even one percent of the courage and honesty with which our leader Rahul Gandhi is fighting in Madhya Pradesh, the path of struggle will become easier.”
His statement comes as murmurs of discontent over the Congress’ ongoing organisation-building campaign intensify. Recently, CWC member Kamleshwar Patel had questioned the role of the state leadership, while a former Bhopal district president flagged irregularities in the membership drive.
Backing Yadav, senior leaders Digvijay Singh and PC Sharma sought to play down tensions, with Sharma clarifying that “the objective of Yadav and Patel is not to weaken the Congress” and that the Political Affairs Committee would take up these matters.
The BJP, however, wasted no time. BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma mocked the Congress, saying: “Meetings are held, fights break out, the stage collapses, clothes are torn — this is their new organisation-building mantra.”
Since December 2023, Jitu Patwari has helmed the state Congress, replacing Kamal Nath, as the party attempted a leadership reset after its electoral drubbing. Yet, the rivalry between Nath and Digvijay Singh continues to cast a shadow. Singh recently blamed Nath for the collapse of the 2020 Congress government, reigniting old fissures. Nath’s measured response and attempts by Patwari’s camp to project reconciliation have done little to quell doubts.
Against this backdrop, Yadav’s call for unity has exposed the Congress’ fragile cohesion — and handed the BJP fresh ammunition ahead of the next political battle in Madhya Pradesh.
