New Delhi, 31st Dec: In a landmark achievement for Indian medicine, the Ophthalmology Department at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi Cantt, has successfully performed India’s first-ever 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography with iStent, combining advanced real-time imaging with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

The pioneering procedure was carried out using the new stand-mounted Spectralis system and a state-of-the-art 3D operating microscope, placing the Armed Forces Medical Services at the forefront of global ophthalmic care.

Glaucoma, one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness, often progresses silently, making early detection and precise intervention critical. This breakthrough allows surgeons to visualise aqueous outflow pathways in real time, enabling highly targeted surgical correction and improving long-term patient outcomes.

As a first-of-its-kind integration in the country, the procedure sets a new benchmark in glaucoma management by offering enhanced intraoperative imaging, improved surgical accuracy and better post-operative results.

For the Armed Forces community, the milestone represents not only a major medical advancement but also a strategic leap in preserving vision health and maintaining operational readiness.
