Pune, 1st Feb. Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande on Wednesday dedicated the newly expanded Bombay Sappers War Memorial at the Bombay Engineers Group and Centre in Pune to commemorate its centenary. He also laid a wreath to honor the fallen soldiers.
In addition, the Army chief released a commemorative postage stamp to immortalize the War Memorial Centenary, according to a defense release.
The Bombay Sappers War Memorial is a revered structure that stands as a tribute to the brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, the release stated.
The expanded war memorial now features two rows of ascending walls with the names of each braveheart, as well as a digital kiosk to help visitors locate specific names.
Addressing a gathering of over 3,000 personnel, including soldiers from the Sikh Light Infantry and Maratha Light Infantry marching contingents, General Pande praised the Bombay Sappers for their exceptional professionalism in providing combat engineer support to the Army’s field formations and in nation-building activities.
