New Delhi, 15th Feb. In a step towards advancing research within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked on February 14, 2024, between the AFMS and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee).
The MoU, aimed at fostering collaborative biomedical research, was signed by Director General (Org & Pers) Lt Gen SK Singh representing the AFMS and Director of IIT Roorkee Prof Kamal Kishore Pant.
The primary objective of this MoU is to enhance combat medical support and patient care for serving personnel through joint research initiatives.
Alongside research endeavors, the agreement encompasses a range of activities including faculty exchange programs, joint academic pursuits, and the promotion of startups in the healthcare sector.
Under the terms of the MoU, the AFMS will benefit from IIT Roorkee’s expertise in diverse fields such as the development of innovative medical devices, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, underscored the significance of collaborating with a prestigious institution like IIT Roorkee, highlighting its potential to propel the AFMS towards the forefront of combat and peacetime medical care.
Prof Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, emphasized the institute’s commitment to prioritizing medical and defense-related research projects, expressing optimism about the fruitful outcomes anticipated from this collaboration.
