New Delhi, 11th July.
Tech giant Apple has issued a stark warning to iPhone users across 98 countries, including India, regarding a looming threat of a new mercenary spyware attack reminiscent of ‘Pegasus’.

The company alert stated, “you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID.”

Apple emphasized that the attack appears to be specifically aimed at individuals based on their profile or activities. While acknowledging the challenge of absolute certainty in detecting such sophisticated threats, Apple expressed high confidence in the validity of the warning and urged users to take it seriously.

This isn’t the first time Apple has raised alarms over such threats. Similar warnings were issued last October and in April this year to users in multiple countries, including India, amidst rising concerns over cyber espionage. Since 2021, Apple has been vigilant in detecting and notifying users of potential spyware attacks multiple times annually.

The Indian government recently cautioned Apple users in the country about vulnerabilities in their devices, underscoring the ongoing cybersecurity challenges faced by smartphone users globally.
