The Andhra Pradesh government issued a gazette notification on Saturday (April 2, 2022) night, carving out 26 districts from the existing 13.
The state government announced that all new districts would be established on Monday (April 4, 2022).
As soon as the gazette notification was issued, the YSR Congress government of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reshuffled IAS and IPS officers and appointed collectors and Superintendents of Police to the newly-created districts.
In January, the state government issued a draft notification to create 26 districts from the existing 13 and invited suggestions and objections.
Here is a complete list of Andhra Pradesh’s 26 districts:
- Manyam district was formed from Vizianagaram district.
- Anakapalli district was formed from Visakhapatnam district, and Alluri Sitarama Raju district was formed from Visakhapatnam district.
- East Godavari district includes Kakinada.
- East Godavari district is divided into Konaseema.
- Eluru is part of the West Godavari district, and Palnadu is part of the Guntur district.
- Bapatla is part of the Guntur district, and Nandyal is part of the Kurnool district.
- Anantapur is divided into districts, one of which is Sri Satya Sai.
- Sri Balaji was created from the Chittoor district; Annamaya was created from the Kadapa district, and N T Rama Rao was created from the existing Krishna district.
- During the 2019 Assembly elections, Reddy promised that if his party was elected, he would turn every Lok Sabha constituency into a district.
- The state has a total of 25 Lok Sabha seats. In addition, one district was established to separate the tribal areas of East Godavari and Visakhapatnam.
