New Delhi, 8th Jan: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday appealed to people across the country to participate in the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, being celebrated in Somnath from January 8 to 11, to commemorate 1,000 years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple.
Shah said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has decided to observe the four-day programme to convey to future generations the message of continuity, resilience and spiritual strength of Sanatan culture.
In a post on X, the Home Minister described the Somnath Mahadev Temple as not only one of the revered Jyotirlingas but also an undying symbol of India’s civilisational heritage and spiritual glory. He recalled that over the past thousand years, the temple has faced multiple attacks but rose again every time, emerging with greater splendour and grandeur.
Calling Somnath a symbol of India’s civilisational immortality and unyielding willpower, Shah said those who attempted to erase the temple have themselves disappeared without a trace, while Somnath continues to stand tall as a beacon of faith and resilience.
“The history of Somnath teaches us that such attacks may cause damage but can never destroy us, because it is the inherent nature of Sanatan culture to rise again with even greater splendour and divinity every time,” Shah said.
He added that as a trustee of the Somnath Temple, it was his privilege to invite citizens to participate in the Swabhiman Parv and be part of a collective reaffirmation of India’s spiritual and cultural continuity.
