Guwahati,29th August — Today marked a historic moment for Assam as Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Brahmaputra Wing of Raj Bhavan at Kharghuli in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya,Chief minister Sri Himanta Biswa sarma, Sri Sarbananda Sonowal and several distinguished dignitaries. The occasion, celebrated with traditional rituals, underlined the Centre’s commitment to strengthening administrative, cultural, and security frameworks in the state.

Shah’s visit began with a series of ceremonial observances within the Raj Bhavan premises. He offered prayers at the newly built temple, participated in go-puja (cow worship), and planted saplings—gestures symbolizing the blend of tradition, spirituality, and environmental consciousness.

Speaking at the event, the Union Home Minister emphasized that the newly inaugurated Brahmaputra Wing was not merely an architectural addition but a reflection of Assam’s growing importance in India’s federal landscape. “Raj Bhavan is not just an institution of governance but also a custodian of Assam’s heritage and aspirations,” he remarked.

Major Security and Administrative Boost

Alongside the inauguration, Shah launched a series of critical security and infrastructure projects that are expected to significantly enhance Assam’s law enforcement and border management capacity.

At Dergaon’s Lachit Borphukan Police Academy, he virtually inaugurated the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory Investigation Centre, a move seen as a milestone in combating cybercrime. This state-of-the-art facility will aid in forensic analysis of digital evidence and strengthen policing in the age of advanced technology.

In Guwahati, the Union Minister inaugurated the new residential complex of the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters, offering modern accommodation facilities for officers and staff. At Sonapur, he virtually dedicated key infrastructure for the 33rd Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), including barracks for 360 jawans, an officers’ mess, and a 10-bed hospital.

Further, Shah laid the foundation stone for multiple projects of the Assam Rifles, including the Director General’s Office at Srikona, a Minor Unit in Silchar, and a Sector Headquarters at Jorhat. These initiatives are expected to strengthen the administrative and residential framework of India’s oldest paramilitary force, enhancing its operational efficiency in the Northeast.
