New Delhi, 10th Dec: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has hailed the inclusion of Deepavali in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, calling it a proud moment for India and a global recognition of the festival’s timeless values.
In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Proud moment for India as Deepavali enters into the UNESCO’s intangible heritage list. This signifies the importance of our ancient cultural ethos even in the modern era. The festival of lights has inspired us since antiquity to believe in the victory of the good and the righteous. It is now profoundly heartening that it will now encourage global well-being.”
Shah said the recognition underscores the enduring relevance of India’s civilisational ideals and the festival’s message of light triumphing over darkness.
Deepavali, celebrated by millions across India and the world, now joins a growing list of Indian cultural traditions that have gained international heritage recognition. The Ministry of Culture noted earlier in the day that the inscription reflects the festival’s contribution to unity, renewal and social cohesion.
