GG News Bureau

New Delhi, 13th April. The BJP released its second list of 23 candidates for the Karnataka assembly elections on Wednesday. This announcement was made a day after it released its first list of 189 candidates. Karnataka will hold a single-phase election on May 10 and the results will be tallied on May 13.

The most recent list excludes the Hubli-Dharwad Central segment, where former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar wants to contest. It also excludes candidates for the Shivamogga city segment, where sitting MLA and former minister K S Eshwarappa has announced his retirement from electoral politics.

Shettar has been asked by the party’s top brass to make way for younger candidates, but he insists on running one more time.

There are four Scheduled Caste candidates, one Scheduled Tribe candidate, and two women candidates on the list.

Virupakshappa, a Channagiri MLA who was recently arrested by Lokayukta police on corruption charges, was one of the incumbent MLAs who did not make to the list. Shiv Kumar has been chosen from the Channagiri constituency.

Sitting MLA Nehru Olekar was replaced in Haveri by Gavisiddappa Dyamannavar, while sitting MLA B Sukumar Shetty was replaced in Byndoor by Gururaj Gantihole.

M P Kumaraswamy, the sitting MLA from Mudigere, was replaced by Deepak Doddaiah.

C M Nimbannavar (76), of Kalghatgi, has been replaced by Nagaraj Chabbi, who recently quit Congress and joined the party, and Basavaraja Naik, of Mayakonda, has been given the ticket instead of sitting MLA N Linganna.

Renomination was denied to Davangere North MLA S A Ravindranath (76). Lokikere Nagraj, on the other hand, received the ticket.

So far, the party has announced candidates for 212 of the 224 seats available.
