Guwahati,June 25– In a commendable initiative to blend devotion with service, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Guwahati Metropolitan Committee organized a series of free health camps on the occasion of Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 at Kamakhya Temple and surrounding areas.

Guided by the theme “Shakti Chahiye Bhakti” (Devotion requires Strength), the health camps were held from June 21 to June 25 at three major locations: Kamakhya Temple premises, Kalipur, and Maligaon Gramya Devata Temple. These camps aimed to offer essential medical services to the lakhs of pilgrims and devotees who gather annually at the sacred Nilachal Hills during the Ambubachi festival.

The first health camp was inaugurated on June 21 at 7 PM at the Kamakhya temple by Dr. Basanta Kumar Baishya, Principal and Chief Superintendent of the Pragjyotish Medical College. In his speech, Dr. Baishya emphasized the importance of good health in spiritual practice, stating, “To serve and worship with devotion, one must also be healthy. Cleanliness and health consciousness are integral parts of true devotion.”VHP Organizes Free Health Camps During Ambubachi Mahayog at Kamakhya Temple

He lauded the VHP’s efforts in organizing such a vital service, especially for visiting pilgrims from across the country and abroad. The inauguration ceremony included a traditional lamp-lighting ritual led by Kabindra Prasad Sharma, the chief Doley (priest) of the Kamakhya Temple. He praised VHP’s annual commitment to social service during this spiritually significant period.

The event highlighted Nilachal Hills not just as a tourist attraction but as a spiritual epicenter for yogic practices. Hence, the festival is now being recognized as “Ambubachi Mahayog” instead of just a “Mela.”

The event was attended by prominent figures including Gyan Sharma (Secretary of the Temple Management Committee), Bibhas Sharma (Treasurer), and several VHP leaders such as Tarawati Sharma (Regional Coordinator for Matri Shakti), Chandan Rava (Divisional Secretary), and other district and regional functionaries. The solemn proceedings were conducted by Chabin Rajkhowa, President of VHP Guwahati Metropolitan Committee.

The second camp was held at Kalipur on June 22 at 10 AM, where Chabin Rajkhowa formally inaugurated the event in the presence of volunteers and hundreds of pilgrims.

The third camp took place at Maligaon Gramya Devata Temple on June 22 at 7 PM and was inaugurated by Dr. Dinesh Tiwari, Regional Organizational Secretary of VHP for the Northeast Zone. In his address, Dr. Tiwari elaborated on the unbroken spiritual and cultural traditions of Sanatan Dharma and explained how the ancient sacred site of Kamakhya continues to draw spiritual seekers from around the world.

Prof. Dr. Neel Mohan Roy, former head of Pandu College, was a guest of honor and provided an insightful account of Kamakhya Devi’s historical significance and the legend of Narakasura. Chabin Rajkhowa also delivered a keynote address on the relationship between the individual soul (jivatma) and supreme soul (paramatma), emphasizing the importance of moral values in life.

The health camps were supported by several prominent healthcare institutions in Guwahati, including Nemcare Hospital, Medicity, Government Ayurvedic College, Marwari Maternity Hospital, and Swagat Hospital. Teams of dedicated doctors, nurses, and medical staff rendered continuous services to the visiting pilgrims.

Pharmaceutical companies also extended their support by providing free medicines for the initiative. As of June 25, the camps have already served approximately 2,500 devotees per day, offering health check-ups and free medicine distribution.

The Ambubachi Mahayog health service effort by VHP reflects a holistic approach to devotion—connecting body, mind, and soul—and showcases how social responsibility and spiritual practice can go hand-in-hand.
