Amaravati/New Delhi, 2nd April: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, granting statutory recognition to Amaravati as the capital of the state, a move hailed as a major political and administrative milestone.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu described the development as a “moment of honour” for the people of Andhra Pradesh, saying it recognises the sacrifices of farmers and resolves long-standing uncertainty over the capital.
“Amaravati symbolises the self-respect of our people. This decision reflects the aspirations of crores and marks a decisive step towards building a ‘Swarna Andhra’,” Naidu said.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan termed the passage of the Bill a “historic occasion,” stating that it reflects the will and resilience of the people and will boost confidence among citizens, investors, and industry stakeholders.
IT Minister Nara Lokesh also welcomed the move, calling it the culmination of years of struggle and a victory for the people. He said the decision would bring clarity in governance, strengthen investor sentiment, and accelerate economic growth.
BJP state president PVN Madhav described the Bill as a permanent solution to the capital issue that has persisted since the state’s bifurcation in 2014.
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly had earlier backed the “One State, One Capital” policy, and the Lok Sabha’s approval is expected to pave the way for planned development of Amaravati as a world-class city.
Lokesh is expected to visit New Delhi to witness further proceedings and meet key leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Vice President, to express gratitude on behalf of the people of the state.
