New Delhi, 21th Jan. Hardeep Singh Puri, the union minister of petroleum and natural gas, launched the first pilot project today to produce alcohol-based fuel for aviation turbines.

This initiative would produce Sustainable Biofuel (SAF).

The Praj Industries Ltd. Research and Development facility in Pirangut, close to Pune, is home to the pilot project setup.

At the launch event were representatives from Indian Oil and other companies, along with Pramod Choudhari, the president of Praj Group. Engaging with them Puri stated that the supply of basic agricultural materials has become difficult due to the enormous demand for biofuel on the global market. He also mentioned that many nations have high expectations for India’s bio turbine fuel, as evidenced by the recent World Economic Forum held in Davos.

He praised the Praj Industrial Unit personnel for initiating this project before Brazil and conveyed his optimism that it will become a global flagship project.

Following the opening, officials led by Shri Puri examined the project and expressed pleasure with the utilization of cutting-edge technology.

Alcohol-based aviation fuel was used last year to successfully complete a flight from Pune to Delhi. At the airport in Delhi, Puri had personally accepted the aircraft.
