New Delhi, 23rd June: An Air India Express flight from Delhi to Srinagar via Jammu made an unscheduled return to the national capital on Monday afternoon due to suspected GPS interference, airline officials said.
Flight IX-2564 was en route to Jammu and was scheduled to land around noon, but it reportedly hovered over the Jammu airport for some time before the pilot decided not to land and diverted the aircraft back to Delhi. Officials confirmed that weather conditions and the runway at Jammu were clear at the time.
In a statement, an Air India Express spokesperson said, “Our Delhi-Jammu flight returned to Delhi as a precautionary measure following a suspected GPS interference incident. Subsequently, an alternative flight was organised to connect guests to Jammu.”
The airline acknowledged the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that the safety of passengers remains its top priority. “Instances of GPS signal interference have been reported by operators while flying over certain sensitive regions,” the spokesperson added.
Authorities are yet to provide further details on the origin or nature of the suspected interference, but the incident has raised concerns amid ongoing discussions on aviation security and navigation reliability in sensitive airspace corridors.
