New Delhi, 7th June: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has extended his gratitude to the government and people of Brazil as the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded in Brasília. In a statement issued on Saturday, he lauded the productive dialogue and consensus achieved during the summit, which focused on key global challenges including terrorism, Artificial Intelligence, and economic cooperation.
Speaker Birla underscored the forum’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary ties among BRICS nations and emphasised the importance of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly.
“There must be transparency and accountability in AI’s use,” he said, noting that AI should serve the larger good of society.
One of the significant outcomes of the summit was a joint condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The BRICS nations collectively called for a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, echoing the stand taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the global stage.
The final declaration adopted at the summit reflected a united stand against terrorism and a shared vision for harnessing AI for development. It also stressed the importance of economic inclusion, enhanced intra-BRICS trade, and stronger cooperation to boost economic resilience.
Looking ahead, Speaker Birla announced that India will host the next BRICS Summit, and preparations will include dialogue on trade, AI, socio-economic development, and global challenges.
“India remains committed to the rule of law, multilateral cooperation, and meaningful parliamentary exchanges,” he added.
Concluding his statement, Birla thanked the Speakers and Presidents of Parliaments of all BRICS nations and expressed hope that continued engagement and the sharing of best practices would bring about tangible improvements in citizens’ lives across member countries.
