AI Summit: PM Modi Holds Back-to-Back Global Talks

New Delhi, 18th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of bilateral meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, focusing on trade, defence, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
PM Modi met Spanish President Pedro Sánchez and discussed ways to strengthen ties in defence, security, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Both nations are marking 2026 as the India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence. The leaders also reviewed progress in areas such as defence collaboration, renewable energy, infrastructure, and education.
The Prime Minister also held talks with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, with both countries aiming to double bilateral trade. Discussions covered cooperation in 6G, innovation, clean energy, biofuels, and the circular economy.
In a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, the two leaders discussed cooperation in defence, manufacturing, digital public infrastructure, fertilisers, and infrastructure. They also reviewed bilateral ties and shared views on regional and global issues.
PM Modi met Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, with talks focusing on technology, innovation, shipbuilding, the blue economy, and connectivity through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Both leaders also supported early implementation of the India–EU free trade agreement.
During his meeting with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, the Prime Minister reviewed cooperation in trade, energy, defence, connectivity, and emerging technologies. He noted the potential for collaboration in critical minerals, rare earths, and space.
Prime Minister Modi also met Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, with both leaders reviewing progress in energy, connectivity, and development partnerships. They agreed to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, building on recent high-level exchanges.
In a separate meeting with Estonian President Alar Karis, the Prime Minister discussed cooperation in IT, digitalisation, cybersecurity, startups, and clean energy. Both leaders highlighted growing cultural and talent exchanges between the two countries.
