New Delhi, 12th Feb: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Thursday clarified that the investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 accident is still underway, dismissing media reports that claimed the probe had been finalised.

In an official statement, the agency said such reports were incorrect and speculative, and that no final conclusions had been reached.

The AAIB said the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025, as well as India’s obligations under ICAO Annex 13. It noted that aircraft accident investigations are technical and evidence-based processes aimed at identifying root causes and improving safety.

The bureau also clarified that the preliminary report released earlier only contained factual information available at the time.

“The final investigation report, containing conclusions and safety recommendations, will be published upon completion of the investigation in line with established international norms,” the statement said.

The AAIB urged media organisations to exercise restraint and avoid premature speculation, warning that unverified reporting could cause public anxiety and undermine the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

It added that the bureau remains committed to transparency, procedural integrity, and the highest standards of aviation safety.
