Dehradun, 3rd July. The BJP legislature party meeting today cleared the picture on who is going to be the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Khatima MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami has been appointed as the 11th CM of Uttarakhand.
The BJP settled on the name of Pushkar Singh Dhami following the refusal of Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat who were being considered as the front runner for the post, according to the sources. The decision was taken after the Vidhayak Mandal meeting of BJP Mla’s in presence of the BJP central observer NS Tomar, state BJP incharge Dushyant Gautam that began at aoround 3 PM on Friday. Pushkar Singh Dhami a two-time MLA from Khatima was the most preferred choice of the MLAs in the meeting. Dhami is close to the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and BJP with his anointment as CM has tried to do a balancing act and stem the anger brewing in among the Kumaoni cadres of the party. Dhami has worked as the president of Bhartiya antata Yuva Morcha the youth wing of the party and is the youngest chief minister of the state. With this BJP has also tried to woe the young voters of the state. The reason cited behind the refusal of Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Sigh Rawat to be elevated to the spot of CM is that both were not interested to serve for such short period as CM as the elections are due after six to eight months in the state.
