New Delhi, 15th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address on the 79th Independence Day, underscored the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative as the foundational pillar for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. Citing advancements across defense, technology, and energy, he presented a clear roadmap for national strength and strategic autonomy.

Defense and Security:
Hailing “Operation Sindoor” as a demonstration of India’s defense self-reliance, the Prime Minister announced the launch of a new initiative, “Mission Sudarshan Chakra.” He stated that the mission, drawing inspiration from the mythical Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Krishna, is aimed at creating a powerful, indigenous defense system to neutralize enemy threats and enhance India’s offensive capabilities. He also called on the nation’s youth to innovate and develop jet engines within India.

Technology and Innovation:
Modi announced that the first “Made in India” semiconductor chip will be launched by the end of 2025. He emphasized the nation’s push for self-reliance in high-tech sectors, including AI, cybersecurity, and deep-tech. He also highlighted the launch of the National Critical Minerals Mission, which will explore 1,200 sites to secure resources vital for energy, industry, and defense.

Space and Energy:
Celebrating Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s recent mission to the International Space Station, the Prime Minister announced plans for India’s own space station. He also revealed that India has achieved its ambitious climate goal of having 50% of its electricity capacity from non-fossil sources five years ahead of the 2030 deadline. He said this was made possible by rapid advancements in solar, nuclear, hydro, and hydrogen energy, and announced plans to increase nuclear energy capacity tenfold by 2047.

Economic and Social Vision:
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for self-reliance in fertilizers for food security and urged citizens to champion ‘Swadeshi’ goods under the “Vocal for Local” initiative. He called on researchers and entrepreneurs to invest more in medical R&D to establish India as a global hub of innovation and provide affordable medicines for all.
