New Delhi, 30th July. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed central probe agencies on Monday, claiming their investigations into the excise policy case have yielded no evidence against the party or Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The remarks followed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filing its final charge sheet in a trial court against Kejriwal and five others, including AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak. The AAP’s statement condemned the ongoing investigations, alleging they have been plagued by inefficacy and bias.
AAP accused the BJP and its agencies of a prolonged witch hunt, highlighting that despite over 50,000 pages of charge sheets, more than 500 witness interrogations, and numerous raids, no substantial evidence has emerged against Kejriwal. The party reiterated Kejriwal’s status as a “staunchly honest” individual, asserting that his repeated bail grants by various courts underscore the lack of merit in the charges.
The AAP further lambasted the BJP for allegedly keeping Kejriwal imprisoned under “false pretenses,” noting his deteriorating health conditions. Kejriwal, arrested on June 26 by the CBI while already in custody from a related case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been granted bail multiple times, though the Supreme Court’s verdict on his petition challenging the CBI arrest is still pending.
The excise policy in question, scrapped in 2022, came under scrutiny after the Delhi Lieutenant Governor ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption. The CBI and ED allege that modifications to the policy involved undue favors to license holders.
