Chandigarh, 29th Sept. In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana, its Faridabad Assembly candidate Pravesh Mehta switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.

Mehta, 69, joined the ruling party in the presence of Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar and senior BJP leader Vipul Goel during a public meeting at Purani Anaj Mandi, Old Faridabad.

Welcoming Mehta to the party, Goel, the BJP’s candidate from Faridabad, expressed confidence that his inclusion would further strengthen the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections on October 5.

“I heartily welcome and congratulate Pravesh Mehta Ji in the BJP family,” Goel said in a post on X, adding that Mehta’s entry would ensure a “historic victory” for the BJP in Faridabad.

The AAP, which had fielded Mehta in the Faridabad constituency, is contesting the Haryana Assembly polls independently.

With Mehta’s defection, the BJP hopes to consolidate its position further, with Goel emphasizing that the BJP is on course for a third consecutive term in the state.
