Mumbai, 26th Oct. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to wish him a happy Diwali.
The two leaders met late Tuesday night at the CM’s official residence ‘Varsha’ in south Mumbai, following BJP leader Fadnavis’s earlier-in-the-day comment that the state cabinet would be expanded soon.
When the deputy CM met Shinde at his home, the CM’s parliamentarian son Shrikant Shinde was also present. The deputy CM was accompanied by his wife Amruta Fadnavis.
Shinde had earlier visited Gadchiroli district to celebrate Diwali with police officers stationed in the remote Bhamragad area to combat Maoists.
He arrived late in the evening in the state capital Mumbai.
Fadnavis tweeted after meeting the CM, “Visited Varsha & met CM @mieknathshinde ji and extended #Deepavali greetings to him and his family earlier today.”
The Shinde-BJP coalition government was formed on June 30 of this year and has now been in power for 100 days.
The state Council of Ministers currently has 18 cabinet ministers, including Chief Minister Shinde.
The Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction and its ally, the BJP, each have nine ministers.
In Maharashtra, the Council of Ministers can have up to 43 members.
