Mumbai, 10th August. The Maharashtra government decided on Wednesday to double the amount of compensation available to farmers affected by the July floods.
After the first meeting of his expanded cabinet, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made the announcement on Wednesday.
As per the current NDRF (National Disaster Response Fund) norms, a farmer receives Rs 6,800 per hectare as compensation. We have decided to double the amount,” Shinde told reporters.
Furthermore, earlier NDRF norms were applicable for damage to crops on a maximum of two hectares. We have decided to change it to three hectares, he said.
Furthermore, previous NDRF standards only applied to crop damage on a maximum of two hectares. We’ve decided to reduce it to three hectares, he explained.
The chief minister said, heavy rains in Maharashtra this monsoon have affected up to 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
