Sanand, 31st March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Kaynes Technology semiconductor plant in Sanand, marking the start of production and a fresh push to India’s semiconductor ambitions.
Highlighting the rapid pace of development, the Prime Minister noted that another semiconductor project had been launched in the same region just a month ago, reflecting the growing momentum in the sector.
He said the entry of an Indian company into semiconductor manufacturing strengthens the country’s self-reliance efforts and positions India as a dependable player in global supply chains.
The Sanand facility will manufacture Intelligent Power Modules used in electric vehicles and industrial systems, with a large share of production aimed at exports. Modi said this reflects the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World”.
Referring to the India Semiconductor Mission launched in 2021, the Prime Minister said the initiative goes beyond industrial policy and represents India’s confidence in shaping the future technology landscape.
He added that projects worth over ₹1.6 lakh crore are underway across multiple states, while the next phase—Semiconductor Mission 2.0—will focus on building a complete domestic ecosystem, including equipment and materials.
The Prime Minister also highlighted workforce development, noting that India is set to train over 85,000 semiconductor professionals, alongside encouraging innovation through startup and academic initiatives.
Describing the current decade as India’s “Techade”, he said the country is moving with the resolve to lead global technological transformation.
