New Delhi, 24th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Rajya Sabha, outlining the government’s response to the ongoing West Asia conflict and its implications for India.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Prime Minister said disruptions in critical global routes like the Strait of Hormuz have emerged as a major concern, with several ships stranded, including those carrying Indian crew members. He noted that the conflict has triggered a global energy crisis, impacting supply chains of essential commodities such as fuel, gas, and fertilizers.

The Prime Minister emphasized that nearly one crore Indians living in Gulf countries remain a key priority, assuring that their safety and livelihoods are being closely monitored. He informed the House that India has maintained constant diplomatic engagement with countries across the region, including Iran, Israel, Gulf nations, and the United States, to push for de-escalation and restoration of peace.

Reiterating India’s stance, he said attacks on commercial vessels and international waterways are unacceptable and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only path forward.

On the domestic front, the Prime Minister assured that the government has taken comprehensive steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential supplies. He said crude oil, LPG shipments, and fertilizer stocks are being secured through diversified sourcing and strategic planning.

He also underlined that India’s economic fundamentals remain strong and that the government is working on short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to mitigate the crisis impact.

Calling for a united approach, the Prime Minister urged both the Centre and states to work together to prevent hoarding and ensure smooth supply of essential goods, emphasizing that citizen welfare remains the government’s top priority.
