New Delhi, 7th March: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday extended greetings to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana (PMBJP) on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026, highlighting the scheme’s impact in making medicines affordable for citizens.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Shah said the initiative launched by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the financial burden of medicines on the poor.

“This initiative of the Modi government is a historic step that has relieved the poor of the country from the financial burden of medicines and spread awareness about generic medicines,” the Home Minister said.

Shah noted that the scheme has expanded rapidly across the country, with around 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras currently providing affordable medicines to people in need.

He said these centres have played a crucial role in improving access to low-cost medicines, particularly for economically weaker sections.

According to the Home Minister, the programme has helped citizens save more than ₹40,000 crore in healthcare expenses so far.

The Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana aims to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices through dedicated Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country, thereby improving access to healthcare and reducing out-of-pocket medical expenditure for families.
