Aizawl, 7th March: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday said the youth of the country are the architects of a developed India as he addressed the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University in Aizawl.
Congratulating the graduating students, the Vice President urged them to contribute actively towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Radhakrishnan described the university as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country and said it represents the transformative power of education rooted in peace and purpose.
Highlighting the transformation of the Northeast over the past decade, the Vice President said the region has moved from being seen as distant to becoming a hub of opportunity.
“Northeast is now defined by its closeness to opportunity, not by its distance from Delhi,” he said.
He noted that initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including improved connectivity and development programmes, have accelerated growth in the region.
Among the key developments, he referred to the recently inaugurated Bairabi–Sairang railway line, as well as schemes such as UDAN and PM-DevINE, which aim to enhance infrastructure and economic opportunities in the Northeast.
Emphasising the role of young people in shaping the future, the Vice President encouraged students to move beyond job-seeking and instead focus on creating employment opportunities.
He highlighted the region’s potential in sectors such as tourism, bamboo-based industries, organic agriculture, handicrafts and digital services.
Radhakrishnan also expressed concern over the growing menace of drug abuse among young people and urged them to stay away from narcotics.
He advised students to use technology and social media responsibly, stressing that young people should become masters of technology rather than its servants.
Praising Mizoram’s rich natural heritage and high literacy rate, the Vice President commended the state’s strong tribal traditions and environmental awareness.
He also lauded Mizoram University for its efforts in sustainability, noting that the institution operates substantially on solar energy.
The convocation ceremony was attended by Mizoram Governor and Chief Rector of Mizoram University General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, along with faculty members, students and parents.
