India, Saskatchewan discuss agri trade, research and farm technology cooperation

New Delhi, 6th March: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday met Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe in New Delhi to discuss strengthening cooperation in agricultural trade, technology and research.

The meeting took place at Krishi Bhawan and focused on expanding bilateral engagement in areas such as advanced farming practices, farm mechanisation and agricultural innovation.

During the discussions, Chouhan highlighted Saskatchewan’s role as a reliable partner for India in agricultural inputs, particularly potash, which is crucial for improving soil fertility and crop productivity.

He also welcomed the proposal to establish a Canada–India Pulse Protein Centre of Excellence aimed at promoting research and innovation in pulse crops and protein production.

Premier Scott Moe emphasised the strong and growing relationship between Saskatchewan and India and expressed commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector.

Both sides also discussed opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, technology transfer and capacity building to enhance productivity and sustainability in farming.

Senior officials present at the meeting included Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Secretary Atish Chandra, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education M.L. Jat, the Agriculture Commissioner, and other officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Department of Fertilizers and the Ministry of External Affairs.
