Chennai, 25th Feb: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Wednesday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the state more frequently as the Assembly elections, expected in April–May, draw closer.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader alleged that the Prime Minister’s repeated visits could upset internal equations within the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with alliance partners fearing electoral backlash.
“Prime Minister Modi has already begun visiting Tamil Nadu and is expected to come frequently in the coming months. Even parties within their own alliance are worried that his visits may result in a massive defeat,” Stalin said, calling the outreach politically driven.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend multiple events in Madurai, including the inauguration of the first phase of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Madurai project. He is also expected to visit the Thiruparankundram Temple amid the Karthigai Deepam controversy and address a major NDA public meeting.
Following a recent NDA meeting in Maduranthagam near Chennai, the alliance is believed to be strengthening its campaign narrative in the southern districts.
Stalin accused the BJP-led Centre of neglecting Tamil Nadu, pointing to the recent approval of the Gujarat Metro project while alleging the absence of major allocations for the state in the Union Budget.
“People will remember that nothing substantial was done for Tamil Nadu. This election is Tamil Nadu versus the NDA. Tamil Nadu should be governed from Fort St George, not from Delhi,” he said.
