Guwahati, 19th Feb: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will launch the Vibrant Villages Programme–II (VVP–II) on Friday at Nathanpur village in Assam’s Cachar district.

The programme aims to promote comprehensive and sustainable development in border villages through a saturation-based and convergence-driven approach. It seeks to improve infrastructure, enhance access to essential services, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in border regions.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 by fostering secure, resilient and prosperous border communities.

The programme is also designed to empower local residents to contribute actively to national security by acting as the first line of vigilance. Strengthening border villages is expected to help prevent cross-border crimes and enhance internal security.

VVP–II is a Central Sector Scheme with a total outlay of ₹6,839 crore up to the financial year 2028–29. It will be implemented across 15 States and 2 Union Territories.

The launch marks a key step in expanding development and security initiatives in strategically significant border areas.
