Nadia, 18th Feb: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said ISKCON is carrying the flag of Sanatan Dharma across the world, crediting the legacy of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for the global spread of the Bhakti tradition.

Shah was addressing the 152nd birth anniversary celebrations of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur in Nadia, West Bengal, as the chief guest. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and several other dignitaries were also present.

The Home Minister said Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and Swami Prabhupada carried forward and modernised the devotional tradition initiated by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, making it relevant for youth and people across the world.

He said Chaitanya Mahaprabhu awakened spiritual consciousness by conveying the message of the Gita through kirtan, devotional music, and dance in a simple and accessible manner, lighting the path of devotion for millions.

Describing Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur as a pioneer, Shah said he freed religion from rigid traditions and narrowness, showing that modernity and spirituality can coexist. He also noted that the saint’s resolve to chant one billion names of Lord Krishna set an example of discipline, austerity, and devotion.

Shah said the spiritual centre being developed by ISKCON in Mayapur would serve as a global hub dedicated to the welfare of humanity and guide generations on the path of devotion.

He credited the life’s work of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and Swami Prabhupada for ISKCON’s worldwide presence, saying the organisation has inspired people to follow the path of the Gita. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often presents a copy of the Gita to visiting world leaders.

The Home Minister also highlighted the contributions of Harichand Thakur and Guruchand Thakur through the Matua Mahasangha in promoting social harmony and welfare.

He said ISKCON has played a major role in social service through disaster relief, education, healthcare, environmental initiatives, free food distribution, and youth outreach.
