Guwahati,14th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Satuurday inaugurated the first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in the Northeast at Dibrugarh in Assam, describing it as a major strategic and disaster-response asset for the region.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the facility was a matter of immense pride for the Northeast and highlighted its importance from both strategic and humanitarian perspectives.
“It is a matter of immense pride that the Northeast gets an Emergency Landing Facility. From a strategic point of view and during times of natural disasters, this facility is of great importance,” he said.
The Emergency Landing Facility has been designed to support the landing and take-off of military and civilian aircraft during emergencies. It is expected to enhance operational readiness and enable rapid deployment of rescue and relief operations in disaster-prone areas of the region.
The inauguration marks a key step in strengthening critical infrastructure in the Northeast, with the facility set to play a vital role in both defence preparedness and emergency management.
