New Delhi, 10th Feb: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday received Patrick Herminie, President of Seychelles, at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour during his first State visit to India.
Welcoming President Herminie, the President said the relationship between India and Seychelles is built on mutual trust, respect, and shared democratic values. She highlighted the deep cultural links between the two nations, bound by the waters of the Indian Ocean.
President Murmu noted that the visit comes at a special moment, as Seychelles marks 50 years of independence while both countries also commemorate five decades of diplomatic relations.
She underlined that Seychelles holds an important place in India’s MAHASAGAR vision, which focuses on trade for development, capacity building for sustainable growth, and mutual security for a shared future. The President emphasised that India remains ready to meet the developmental and security needs of Seychelles under this framework.
President Murmu also expressed confidence that the Special Economic Package announced during the visit would give fresh momentum to cooperation in priority sectors such as health, infrastructure, education, defence, and capacity building.
The two leaders agreed that there is vast potential to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that ties would deepen in the coming years, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
