New Delhi, 6th Feb: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced the signing of a “historic” agreement between the Government of India, the Government of Nagaland and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), aimed at resolving long-standing issues in the region.

In a post on X, Shah said the pact addressed decades-old concerns of Eastern Nagaland and marked a major step toward stability and development in the Northeast.

He described the agreement as a “giant step” toward realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous Northeast through the resolution of contentious regional issues.

The tripartite agreement is expected to address administrative, developmental and political concerns raised by organisations representing the eastern districts of Nagaland. The region has long demanded greater autonomy and targeted development measures.

Officials said the agreement reflects the Centre’s continued efforts to engage with regional stakeholders and resolve longstanding issues through dialogue and consensus.

The government has in recent years signed multiple accords with insurgent groups and regional bodies across the Northeast, aiming to bring lasting peace, infrastructure growth and economic opportunities to the region.
