New Delhi, 5th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in the mishap in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya and announced ex-gratia assistance for the victims’ families and the injured.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased. Those injured in the incident will receive ₹50,000.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed grief over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the mishap.
“Pained by the mishap in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” the PMO said in the post while announcing the ex-gratia relief.
Authorities are continuing rescue and investigation efforts at the accident site as more details emerge about the incident.
