Shehzad Poonawalla Claims Mother Deliberately Run Over in Pune

New Delhi, 4th Feb: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has alleged that his mother sustained serious injuries after being deliberately struck by a car in Pune, and has urged authorities to immediately apprehend the accused.
According to Poonawalla, an unidentified individual rammed a vehicle into his mother and fled the scene, leaving her critically injured. He said she is scheduled to undergo surgery and appealed for prayers for her recovery.
Sharing details of the incident on social media platform X, Poonawalla wrote that an “extremely disgusting human being” ran his car over his mother and escaped. “She will be undergoing a surgery very soon. Kindly pray for her,” he said, expressing deep anguish over the incident.
Describing his mother as a compassionate and kind person, the BJP leader said the episode had left him shaken. He tagged Pune City Police, the Commissioner of Police, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging strict legal action against the accused.
“Hope Pune Police will arrest that person and ensure he doesn’t get away with it,” Poonawalla added.
In a related development, his brother and political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla shared CCTV footage on X, which he claimed captured the moment their mother was hit. Tehseen said their mother, a senior citizen, was standing at the side of the road while their driver refuelled the car when the vehicle struck her.
“My mom was standing very far from the road. How can someone hit her unless it was deliberate?” he wrote, adding that a police complaint would be filed and efforts were underway to identify the vehicle involved.
Providing a medical update, Tehseen said their mother suffered a fractured hip and would require surgical intervention. “Her hip is broken and she will have to undergo surgery. A rod will be inserted for life,” he said, calling the incident infuriating and heartbreaking.
He also flagged past security concerns, claiming there had been earlier threats against him, which were documented by police and intelligence agencies. “My heart hurts that my senior citizen mom has to go through this trauma and pain,” he wrote, adding that he had spoken to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police.
As of now, the police have not issued an official statement on the incident. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
