1991-batch INAS officer assumes key post at Naval Headquarters

New Delhi, 3rd Feb: Divakar Jayant, Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS), has taken over as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at Naval Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence on February 2, 2026.
He succeeds Shri P. Upadhyay, who superannuated on January 31, 2026.
A 1991-batch officer of the Indian Naval Armament Service, Jayant joined the Naval Armament Organisation of the Indian Navy on December 28, 1992. Over a distinguished career spanning 33 years, he has held several senior appointments, including Chief General Manager and General Manager/Principal Director at Naval Armament Depots in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Alwaye, as well as key positions at Naval Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence.
An Electrical Engineering graduate from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Jayant specialises in life-cycle management of torpedoes and has extensive experience in planning explosive infrastructure projects. He is also well-versed in human resource management and administration.
The officer has undergone the prestigious APPPA course during 2017–18, further strengthening his strategic and administrative expertise.
His appointment is expected to reinforce the Indian Navy’s armament management, infrastructure planning and operational preparedness.
