Pune, 29th Jan: Investigators have recovered the black box of the Learjet aircraft that crashed at Baramati on Wednesday morning, killing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others on board, officials said.
The black box, which includes the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), will now be sent for detailed analysis to reconstruct the final moments of the flight and identify the cause of the accident.
The Learjet 45, operated by Delhi-based company VSR Ventures, crashed around 8:45 am while attempting a second approach to Baramati Airport. The accident claimed the lives of 66-year-old Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer and attendant, and two cockpit crew members — pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur and first officer Shambhavi Pathak.
Officials said the aircraft had departed Mumbai around 8 am and was scheduled to land in Baramati, where Ajit Pawar was to address four election rallies ahead of the upcoming local body polls.
Investigating agencies will analyse flight parameters, cockpit conversations, weather data and aircraft performance records retrieved from the black box to determine whether the crash was caused by technical failure, pilot error, weather conditions or other operational factors.
The recovery of the black box is considered a crucial step in the investigation, and is expected to provide critical insights into the sequence of events leading up to the fatal crash.
