New Delhi, 28th Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the centenary celebrations of Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital in Kerala through a video message, highlighting the timeless relevance of Ayurveda and calling for greater integration of modern technology and artificial intelligence in the traditional system of medicine.
The Prime Minister said Ayurveda in India has never been confined to any one era or region and has, through the ages, guided people to understand life, achieve balance and live in harmony with nature. He described Arya Vaidya Sala as a living symbol of India’s healing traditions and praised its role in preserving and advancing Ayurveda over the past 125 years.
Recalling the contribution of founder Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier, Shri Modi said his dedication to public welfare and holistic healthcare continues to inspire generations. He noted that Arya Vaidya Sala today manufactures over 600 Ayurvedic medicines and treats patients across India and from more than 60 countries, earning global trust through its work.
The Prime Minister said the government has consistently focused on preventive healthcare, reflected in the launch of the National Ayush Mission. He said more than 12,000 Ayush Wellness Centres have been opened across the country to provide yoga, preventive care and community health services, ensuring wider access to traditional medical systems.
Highlighting the growth of the AYUSH sector, Shri Modi said exports of AYUSH and herbal products have risen from around ₹3,000 crore in 2014 to about ₹6,500 crore, benefiting farmers and strengthening India’s global wellness footprint. He also pointed to India’s emergence as a key destination for AYUSH-based medical value travel, supported by initiatives such as the AYUSH Visa.
The Prime Minister said the recently concluded India–EU trade agreement will further boost traditional medicine services, enabling AYUSH practitioners to offer services in Europe and helping establish wellness centres in EU member states.
Emphasising the need to adapt to changing times, Shri Modi called for increased use of modern technology and artificial intelligence in Ayurveda. He said AI can help in predicting diseases, improving diagnostics and enhancing treatment methods, while strengthening evidence-based research to boost global confidence in Ayurvedic practices.
He also lauded Arya Vaidya Sala’s collaboration with institutions such as CSIR and IIT for scientific validation, drug research, clinical studies and cancer care, calling it an example of how tradition and modern science can work together.
Governor of Kerala Rajendra Arlekar was among the dignitaries present at the event.
