Washington | January 26: US Extends Republic Day Wishes to India
The United States has reiterated the depth of its relationship with India, extending warm greetings on the occasion of India’s Republic Day and highlighting expanding cooperation across strategic and economic sectors.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the India–US relationship as historic, while congratulating the people of India on the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.
“On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of India on your Republic Day,” Rubio said in an official statement.
Strategic Partnership Central to Regional Stability
The statement noted that the partnership between the two democracies is broad, longstanding, and increasingly critical for maintaining regional peace and addressing global challenges.
It underlined cooperation in areas such as defence, energy security, critical minerals, and emerging technologies, reflecting the growing strategic alignment between New Delhi and Washington.
Indo-Pacific and Quad Cooperation Emphasised
The US also highlighted sustained engagement within the Quad framework, stating that India–US collaboration plays a key role in promoting a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
According to the statement, the relationship delivers tangible benefits not only to both nations but also to the wider Indo-Pacific, strengthening economic growth, innovation, and regional stability.
Commitment to Future Engagement
Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to building on the current momentum in bilateral ties and advancing shared objectives in the coming year.
“I look forward to working together to advance our shared objectives in the year ahead,” he said.
India Marks Republic Day
India celebrates Republic Day annually on January 26 to commemorate the adoption of its Constitution in 1950, marking the country’s transition into a sovereign democratic republic. The day is observed with ceremonial events in New Delhi, including a national parade, and celebrations across the country highlighting constitutional values and democratic traditions.
Over the past two decades, India–US relations have expanded significantly to include defence cooperation, trade, technology partnerships, and people-to-people exchanges. The partnership has emerged as a central pillar of the Indo-Pacific framework, with both nations working closely with regional partners to promote stability, development, and innovation.
