The day symbolises the transition from winter to spring and is associated with renewal, growth and optimism. It also marks the beginning of preparations for Holika Dahan and Holi, which are observed about forty days later. The traditional Vasant Utsav, celebrated during this period, represents the gradual blossoming of spring.
The colour yellow holds special importance during Basant Panchami, symbolising energy, prosperity and the vibrancy of mustard fields in full bloom. Temples and educational institutions across the country adorned idols of Goddess Saraswati in yellow attire and organised special prayers and cultural programmes.
