Haridwar, 22nd Jan: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday said that the spiritual reconstruction of India will not only benefit the nation but will also serve as a guiding light for the entire world. Addressing the “Centenary Year Ceremony – 2026” organised by the Gayatri Parivar in Haridwar, he said Indian tradition holds solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
The event marked the birth centenary of Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma Ji and the centenary year of the Akhand Deep. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Shah said Haridwar is a confluence of faith, spirituality and culture, and added that by participating in the ‘Akhand Jyoti’ conference, he was experiencing “unbroken energy and consciousness.” He said great Indian visionaries such as Swami Vivekananda, Maharshi Aurobindo and Pt. Shri Ram Sharma Ji had all envisioned India’s spiritual awakening as a force for global welfare.
Highlighting the contribution of Pt. Shri Ram Sharma Ji, the Home Minister said he connected millions of people with the Gayatri Mantra and brought devotion out of the temple sanctum to the lives of ordinary citizens. He said the Gayatri Parivar today guides over 15 crore followers across more than 100 countries, reflecting the enduring impact of Pt. Sharma Ji and Mata Bhagwati Devi Ji’s life and work.
Shah described 1925–26 as a period of national resurgence, noting that institutions such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Gita Press and Akhand Jyoti were founded during that time. He said the convergence of multiple centenaries in the same year symbolised a divine phase for India’s cultural and spiritual revival.
Referring to Pt. Ram Sharma Ji’s message of “Hum Badlenge, Yug Badlega” (We will change, the era will change), Shah said the philosophy of individual transformation leading to nation-building had given the country a renewed sense of direction and resolve. He added that the 24 syllables of the Gayatri Mantra awaken 24 spiritual centres linked to virtues, strengthening altruism, courage and intellect.
The Home Minister said Pt. Ram Sharma Ji emphasised that religion and science are complementary, not contradictory, and played a pioneering role in evaluating spirituality through logic and reason. He said seeing children in the Gayatri Parivar holding a Veda in one hand and a laptop in the other symbolised how tradition and progress can move forward together.
Shah also highlighted the Gayatri Parivar’s role in nation-building, from participation in the freedom movement to social reforms, campaigns against social evils, women’s empowerment, environmental initiatives and disaster relief. He said the organisation has consistently remained at the forefront during national crises such as floods, earthquakes and pandemics.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Shah said India is moving towards becoming a fully developed nation that transcends materialism and advances along the path of spirituality. He said this resolve has become the collective aspiration of 140 crore Indians and cannot be achieved without the cooperation of social and spiritual organisations.
The Home Minister also cited major developments over the past decade, including the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, redevelopment of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, restoration of Somnath, abrogation of Article 370 and progress towards a Common Civil Code, saying these reflected a renewed confidence in India’s civilisational identity.
On the occasion, Amit Shah also inaugurated the Patanjali Emergency and Critical Care Hospital in Haridwar, strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.
