Davos, Switzerland 21st January : India’s economic momentum and growing leadership in technology and inclusive development have emerged as major talking points at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the summit, Vaishnaw noted that discussions around India’s transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi are resonating strongly among global leaders, policymakers, and industry captains attending the forum. He said India’s development trajectory, driven by technology-led governance and inclusive growth, is drawing significant international attention.
“India’s presence is being strongly felt here in Davos 2026. Conversations across forums are centred on India’s economic growth, technological leadership, and inclusive development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Vaishnaw said. He added that the Indian delegation is actively participating in all major events and discussions at the global gathering.
Vaishnaw was joined by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the summit, underscoring the combined push by the Centre and states to attract global investment and partnerships. According to the minister, India’s ability to leverage modern technology while ensuring equitable growth has become a key theme across panel discussions and informal interactions.
“The leadership role India is playing in technology, along with its focus on inclusive growth, is a central topic of conversation across all forums,” he said.
Clarifying expectations around formal bilateral engagements, Vaishnaw explained that Davos is primarily designed for panel discussions, strategic dialogues, and informal bilateral interactions rather than structured delegation-to-delegation negotiations. “Trade meetings and negotiations happen on their own timelines. India is already deeply engaged with major economies on almost all fronts,” he said.
The 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum is being held from January 19 to 23, 2026, in Davos-Klosters, bringing together nearly 3,000 participants from over 130 countries. The event has seen a record presence of world leaders, CEOs, innovators, and policymakers, all convening under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue.”
Global leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia are engaging in discussions on economic resilience, technological transformation, climate action, and geopolitical stability. The emphasis on collective and bold action has made this year’s meeting particularly significant amid global uncertainties.
India’s growing role in renewable energy has also been prominently showcased at the forum. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi called upon global investors to partner with India in its rapid clean energy expansion, highlighting the country’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy markets.
India’s strong presence at Davos reflects its ambition to shape global economic and technological narratives while reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-driven growth.
